The 6-Point Helmet Hygiene Checklist Every Rider Should Follow
12 May 2026

Sanitization does the heavy lifting. These habits keep the gap between cycles comfortable.
- Never store the helmet in direct sunlight — UV from the sun degrades the shell, not the germs
- Let it air out visor-open for 10 minutes after every ride
- Skip heavy hair oil on riding days
- Keep a clean cotton inner cap for long commutes
- Wipe the visor with a microfibre cloth, never a shirt sleeve
- Sanitize weekly if you ride daily in traffic
When to replace, not clean
If the EPS liner is cracked, or the helmet has taken an impact, no amount of cleaning restores protection. Replace it.
